Betsy’s Dog Eyes series are about what your dog’s eyes say to you and what your dog’s eyes see. Anyone who has befriended a dog understands that a dog’s eyes are the window to his soul and personality.

Starting with a detailed sketch on stretched canvas. The eyes and nose are built up to create a 3D effect. The face of the dog is created using a collage of handmade paper and is embellished using acrylic or oil paint. As a touch of whimsy, I make a 3D object for the top of the nose. For example, a butterfly or bee or any other fun ideas, which is also reflected in the dog’s eyes.
